Macaranga tanarius (L.) Mull. Arg. var. tomentosa (Blume) Mull. Arg.

Status: Native; Not Assessed. Cultivated.

Recent Synonyms: None relevant.

Growth Form or Habit: Small tree.

Leaves: Simple, spiral, toothed margin (those we see are usually 3- to 5-lobed), ovate-oblong, papery, apex acute to acuminate, base rounded to cordate, peltate. Venation like spider’s web. Petioles to 18 cm, slightly furry at least at tip, lamina furry on nerves below, sometimes only near petiole. Stipules broadly lanceolate, 8 by 3 to 20 by 7 mm, acuminate to caudate, furry sometimes just on mid-line or smooth.

Distribution: India and Ryuku Islands (Japan) to Queensland, Vanuatu (Pacific).
