Cnestis palala

Cnestis palala (Lour.) Merr.

Recent Synonyms: Cnestis ramiflora Griff.

Status: Native; Not listed in the Singapore Red Data Book (Davison et al., 2008), hence was automatically listed as common (i.e. not threatened) in Chong et al. (2009). However, this may be an error of omission in the RDB. Goh Wee Kee’s (1998) Honours Year thesis stated that this species was rare, with the only large climber spotted at Bukit Timah Reserve along the main road, and a few saplings along Mandai Lake Road and the nature trails of MacRitchie Reservoir. Hence the status will likely be revised in a future Red List.

Growth Form or Habit: Climber.
